Knights of Columbus, East York Council 6353 Newsletter
Recruitment and service efforts are like exercise and good nutrition for a council - they’re necessary to stay healthy. A council that is stable and strong regularly recruits new members and conducts programs for the Church and community. A council that is facing difficulties often goes months or even years without adding any new Knights to its roster or sponsoring service projects. I urge each of you to take the responsibility to recruit a new member. Your neighbors, friends, and business associates are all potential candidates. Carry a form #100 with you. Ask and keep asking. Our Mass for our living and deceased members of our council is Sunday, November 22, at the 8:30 AM Mass. All members and their families are asked to sit in the reserved section. We will have a speaker at the 8:30 and 10:30 Masses. This is also Hospitality Sunday for the K of C and we will be in charge of coffee and donuts at both of these Masses. This will also be a recruitment Sunday and we will have members of our Honor Guard present to take up the gifts and be present in the Narthex after Mass to help with recruiting. Wednesday, December 2nd, our “Light up for Christ” ceremony will be held again in the Rachel Garden. We will again have the Children’s Choir with Patty and Butch handling the post event festivities. Time for the light up will be at 5:30 PM for ornament hanging and lights on at 6:00 PM. I’d like to see more members show up for this project. Our “Keeping Christ in Christmas” billboard is again in the capable hands of Brother Joe Spangler. Football tickets have been sent in and we sold 338 total. Considering the economy, we did well and I thank all of the members who helped on this project. C.O.A.L. tickets are still selling and are due back by November 22. Proceeds benefit the PA Knights of Columbus State Scholarship Fund and our own council. A new “200 Club” raffle (blue ticket) begins selling November 22, and the first drawing is on Sunday, January 3, 2010. This is an easy project and the same people look forward to buying these tickets. Only 200 tickets are sold at $10 each and it runs for 20 weeks. Prizes will be the same: $25 for the first 18 weeks, $100 for the 19th week, and $300 for the 20th week, which ends on May 16, 2010. Our annual Christmas citrus fruit sale is underway and sale ends December 1. We have many comments every year on how good the fruit tastes. You can order for yourself, family, and friends as well as the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry. Let’s get behind this project. Pick up dates are December 12 and 13 after all Masses. Continue to pray the rosary. Remember, the family that prays together, stays together. Pray it with your brother Knights before each council meeting at 6:30 PM. Please keep in your prayers members of our council who are ill or members of their families. Keep in your prayers our priests and Bishop. This is the year of the Priest. Since our Order’s founding by a priest, the Venerable Michael J. McGivney, the Knights of Columbus has maintained a close relationship with our priests. God Bless each of you my brother Knights and your families, and may all of you have a very Blessed and Merry Christmas. Fraternally, Bob Fedroff

PAUL SHELLENBERGER If you need a sub, you can call on the following: Gary Bankos (757-4577), Mike Goc (757-1371), Jim Crooks (751-0797), Jim Leahy (757-6268), D.J. Corbitt (757-9017), Andy Bria (332-1370) Ross Moquin (246-6776), Fr. Joe Tuscan (755-7503), or Pat Workinger (846-4410). If you can’t get a sub, please call Tim Bair (757-2363) before Saturday so he can arrange for someone to be there. We still need volunteers to help fill our spot of one hour from 7 to 8 PM every Saturday. If we can get a total of 52 volunteers then we each only attend once a year. Once a year is a very small sacrifice to give adoration to Jesus Christ present in the Eucharist. Please look into your hearts and listen. You may hear a message to show your faith and volunteer for adoration. If you wish to volunteer, call Lou Cedrone at 854-9644 or E-mail him at GregoryInt@Comcast.net and let him know.
Our annual Knights of Columbus membership and memorial Mass will be held November 22, 2009, at 8:30 AM. Council 6353 will be honoring both living and deceased members of their respective families at the aforementioned Mass. All members are encouraged to attend with their families and sit in the reserved section set aside for this spiritual event. Brother Knights who are ushers will direct you to this section. Additionally, all ministries at this Mass will be served by brother Knights as follows:
Our council will be raising it dues in 2010. The council officers decided to raise the dues to $25, which happens to be the same as the other councils in our area. We have charged our members $15 for 35 years. The increase will help our council to continue and operate in our current economic environment. Council 6353 has a new website - www.KofC6353.org - thanks to Lou Cedrone’s son Lou. From this website you will be able to check on council activities, read our bi-monthly newsletter, and subscribe to our mailing list. The hope is for all members with Internet service to begin accessing the newsletter via the Internet. The newsletter editor will then send a notice that the next newsletter is available on-line. The November/December 2009 and the January/February 2010 newsletters will be sent by E-mail as normal as well as be posted on-line. The council then plans to only post the newsletter on-line after February 2010. Lou Cedrone has done an excellent job of collecting as many E-mail addresses as possible in our council. The newsletter editor will be contacting those currently not on the E-mailing address and asking them if they would like to access the newsletter on-line or to receive it my post office. Please seriously consider accessing the newsletter on-line and saving the council money on postage. Please keep the following Brothers and their families in your prayers. They or a family member are either ill or recovering. Please pray that God gives them the courage and strength to heal. They are: Pat Workinger (in hospital for heart) and John Trevino Sr. (had a mini-stroke).
The C.O.A.L campaign will continue into November. The last day to turn in tickets will be Sunday, November 22. So it’s not too late to sell all your tickets or to buy more. Remember the tickets are $1 each or a book of 8 tickets for $5. You can turn in your tickets in at the council meeting in November or place them in an envelope and drop it into the collection basket at Mass.
It’s that time again to get your oranges, grapefruit or tangelos. Our annual Citrus Sale has started. This has been a successful fundraiser for the council due to your hard work. We again hope that you can sell fruit to your family, friends, and neighbors, as well as buy some for yourself. Remember we need everyone’s help to make this a success. Order forms should have been mailed to you. Fruit pickup will be Saturday and Sunday, December 12 and 13. Delivery will be Wednesday or Thursday, December 9 or 10. We need volunteers. See or call Jim Boyle, Jr. at 757-7160 if you have any questions.
Scholarship applications for the 2009-2010 State Scholarship Program are in the possession of our Grand Knight. Your son or daughter must be a graduating senior in high school this year to be eligible for a $2,000 State Scholarship. You can pick up an application from Bob Fedroff. The deadline is December 31, 2009 for all the applications to be received by the State Scholarship Chairman.
