Greeting Brother Knights,

Let me welcome you to a new fraternal year. I want to start by expressing my thanks for your support in electing me as your Grand Knight for the 2014-2015 fraternal year. I look forward to working with you to make this an outstanding year for our Council.  I also want to extend my appreciation to our immediate Past Grand Knight, Paul Shellenberger, and all of the officers from 2013-2014, for their steadfast work and endless energy to deliver services to our St. Joseph Parish and community.

The start of the new year is a time to reflect on what we have accomplished this past year, but more important by what we hope to achieve in the future. As I have thought about what our Council has done and where we are going, it is clear the strength of our organization, the spirit that keeps us together, is that we are a Fraternity of Service. As we go forward this year, I want us to focus on what being a Fraternity of Service means and how we can strengthen this spirit.

As a Knight and member of Council #6353, we have a responsibility to be an active part of the Council activities. What is this spirit that brings us together? The first part of this spirit that unifies us as Brothers Knights is that we are a fraternity, a unified Catholic band of brothers who come together to provide the spiritual, personal and social support for one another. In this fraternal year, we should continue to strive to bring in new members, but also to develop the opportunities that will encourage our existing members to be an active part of our organization.
I implore each Knight of Council #6353 to review the activities of the Council over the next twelve months and to select an activity you would like to be a part of. How about offering no less than 4 hours of your time over the course of a year to assist in providing a service to St. Joseph Church and the community with your Brother Knights in the Council? Our monthly meeting occurs the third Tuesday of each month, starting at 6:30 pm with the rosary and followed by our business meeting beginning at 7:00 pm in the St. Pio room. Our current activities include praying the rosary, to end abortion, selling fruit tickets in November, selling football tickets in October, helping at the Council's Carnival booth, selling chicken barbecue tickets, support at the Annual Yard Sale, Annual "Cruise for a Knight" event, etc. You can help your Brother Knights and transform your life. These activities are necessary to support our real gifts to the our community. Remember as a Knight, you have the opportunity to support your parish, give back to your community and increase your faith. We need your mind and energy to develop programs and activities that serve those in need. We welcome and encourage your new ideas for activities; please call on any one of the officers or me to share your suggestions. If you are new to the Council, or if you just haven't been able to attend many meetings, let us know what would inspire you to be a more active member of our Council. We can only make our Fraternity of Service stronger if we are providing the experiences that are most interesting and relevant to our members.

Can't leave you without saying something about 2014 Retreat at Malvern Retreat House St. Joseph's in the Hills. Please, Please start planning today to join your Brother Knights for 2015 Mid May. Our sincere thank you to Lou Cedrone and Joe Spangler for their efforts making our weekend spiritual and blessed. What can I say, you only must attend one year and you are booked for life.

Thank s to Charles Krause for bringing together a team of Brother Knights to raise funds for ARC.  We can always use a helping hand Thursday Nights at St. Joseph Church Bingo Events, one of our major fund raisers. Thank you to those who work at this event weekly.

Newsletter Coordinator Report (July 2014)

The first of our principles is Charity: Our Catholic faith teaches us to “ Love thy neighbor as thyself “. Members of the Knights of Columbus show love by conducting food drives and donating the food to local soup kitchens and food pantries, by volunteering at Special Olympics, and by supporting , both spiritually and mentally, mothers who chose life for their babies. Knights recognize that our mission , and our faith in God compel us to action. There is no better way to experience love and compassion than to help those in need , a call we answer every day. These are just a few examples of how we give to our church and community. ***** This is our first principal. How are we living it??

Brother knights, we have a first degree scheduled for July 15th at 6:00. We ask all Knights to attend and welcome new members into our order. A tie and jacket is preferred order of dress. If you recruited and are a sponsor of an incoming knight , please attend . The first degree will be prior to our meeting and following the degree the new Knights will be able to attend their first meeting. There will be no Rosary on that evening.

Other Degree upcoming will be:
The third degree TBD
The Fourth Degree April 12, 2015 at the Holiday Inn Grantville.

New officer installation will be August 19th at our regular meeting. Coat and tie preferred. Wives or significant other are invited as they will participate in the ceremony. There will be refreshments after. There will be no formal K of C meeting. All incoming officers are to be at the church by 6:30 PM. Insurance for our Brother Knights and Family Members

The main purpose of our Knights' founder, Father Michael McGivney in 1882, was to provide for the families who lost the male breadwinner.  Since that time the Knights have become one of the largest and most successful providers for families in need.  Both the insurance and financial products that are offered provide this financial security.
